Battling Weight With MyFitnessPal (My Second Fat Journey)

Image
All of my life, mostly from around age 8 to 27 and 29 to now, I had problems with my weight. The main cause, but not the only cause, is my thyroid; I have hypothyroidism--the type that makes you gain weight (obviously). But I take medication for that. The second cause that is gunning for that main cause is my anxiety and depression. How is that so? Well, I eat my feelings. Feeling nervous? Let's empty this nice big bag of Doritos, shall we? Feeling down about how crappy a person you are? How about you go for some ice cream and Snickers? These causes are harmful and need to be stopped. There was a small break, though. With the help of an app called MyFitnessPal I was able to actually lose weight! Yes! Me! The guy who got treated like Vern from Stand By Me ; the guy who -- let's just see some images of people I was called and told I looked like: Yeah, a bear. Anyways, yes, MyFitnessPal was and is the answer. MyFitnessPal helped me do something ...

My Inspiration for "My Brother Daniel"

Image
"My Brother Daniel" is the fourth story in my book Welcome to Devil's Hill. This story is about a man who visits his parents and older brother on Thanksgiving day and discovers something odd. I wrote this story during the beginning of November on a slow day at my job as a student library aid for a college campus. I wanted to write a psychological horror story that had to do with Thanksgiving. I added a splash of gore, and now, here we are. My Inspiration for "Home Invasion"

Image
"Home Invasion" is the third short story in my debut book Welcome to Devil's Hill. It's about a group of young men who break into a wealthy home, hoping to find drugs and cash, but they end up finding something straight out of a horror film. I wrote this story because at the time, I was seeing various news coverage about home invasions, especially in my own city. And of course, my macabre mind started thinking: what if one day these thieves break into the home of someone even MORE sinister than they are? I don't want to give the story away, but this one might surprise you. Read my book here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B4B3WXD Support Halloween Eddie by Buying Him a "Coffee" Buy me a coffee 👻🎃

My Inspiration for 'I Heart Serial Killers'

Image
"I Heart Serial Killers" is the second story on my debut book Tales From Devil's Hill: Welcome to Devil's Hill. I was inspired to write this story after seeing many accounts on Instagram that glorify and idolize serial killers like Richard Ramirez, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, etc. After seeing all of these posts, I thought to myself, How awful would it be to be a relative or have some kind of connection to the victim of one of these killers? And then I thought, what if a serial killer fanatic became the victim of one of their favorite serial killers? And that's when the story was born. (Review) The Mouth of the Dark by Tim Waggoner

Image
Tim Wagonner - The Mouth of the Dark Halloween Eddie Rating: 🎃🎃🎃🎃 Release Date: September 6, 2018 Tim Waggoner's The Mouth of the Dark is what happens when Clive Barker, Sam and Dean from Supernatural, and Chad Palahniuk go on an acid trip inside of Eli Roth's Hostile. The Mouth of the Dark is about a man named Jayce Lewis who is in search of his missing twenty-year-old daughter, Emory. Not really knowing much about his own daughter, Jayce is forced to search for Emory in places known as Shadow; a darker reality that coexists covertly with our normal, everyday reality. On his journey, Jayce dwells deeper into shadow, and things get darker and stranger. This story is thrilling, mysterious, weird, filled with gore, sex, and slimy monsters, and beings and situations that just make you think, "How freaking weird is this?" There’s a guy who smokes the feces of accidental death victims, monstrous sex toys, dog-eating teens, and a dark-being known as The ...

(Book Review) Batman and The Signal

Image
🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 Batman and The Signal Batman & The Signal tells the story of Duke Thomas aka The Signal; Batman's newest recruit. The Signal is now basically a day-time Batman, and was formerly a new Robin. I really enjoyed this graphic novel! It is very fresh, fun, exciting, and gives us a new super hero that is opposite of Batman's night-time crusading. Duke Thomas is a very cool new hero that kids (especially of minority) could look up to and be obsessed with. He has a cool suit and awesome powers. Besides having great dialogue and an epic story, the art is fantastic and eye-catching. Really digging Batman's new look and The Signal's, too. I recommend! Enjoy my content? (Book Review) The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe - Manga Classics

Image
🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe - Manga Classics I am really impressed with how Edgar Allan Poe's classic tales were adapted into manga. It was fun and gave a whole new perspective to the macabre classics that we all know and love. The art is beautiful, ghastly, and eye-catching. My favorite was "The Tell-tale Heart. The art worked so perfect with the story; they all did, but this one was my favorite. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Edgar Allan Poe and horror manga. Stories included: The Tell-tale Heart, The Masque of the Red Death, The Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

(Book Review) Trapped In Room 217 by Thomas Kingsley Troupe

Image
🎃🎃🎃🎃 Trapped In Room 217 by Thomas Kingsley Troupe Trapped In Room 217 is a really good ghost story that is perfectly fit for kids ages 8 through 12. It is even a great read for young adults and older adults like myself! (I definitely plan on checking out the Haunted States of America series.) Trapped in Room 217 is about a twelve-year-old girl named Jayla Walters who has to stay in the famous Stanley Hotel with her father and brother Dion. Jayla has a paranormal encounter and begins to learn more about the ghostly maid and the history of The Stanley Hotel. I read this book in two days. It was really fun and kept me wanting to know more. I would have liked it much more if the story was more thrilling and scary, but hey, it's a kids book. I recommend this book! It is perfect for Halloween.

Jane Levy's Jackie Torrance Connection to The Shining

Image
Castle Rock gets better and better with each episode. Episode 5 "Harvest" is, so far, the best episode. Jane Levy's character has already revealed that her name is Jackie Torrance . Was this a hint or an Easter egg for Jack Torrance in The Shining ? Probably a little more than that. Jackie Torrance reveals that she had a cosuin, who was also a writer, that went crazy and tried to ax his wife and son at a "fancy ski resort." She took the name "Jackie Torrance" just to piss her parents off. And her real name is Diane. So Diane aka Jackie Torrance is related to Stanley Kubrick's Jack Torrance because he was the ax-weilding psycho. Stephen King's Jack Torrance weilded a mallot. I don't believe this connection will go any deeper or reveal anything new, but it is a cool Easter egg. Like what I do? Please Buy me a coffee 🎃

(Book Review) Epidemic of the Living Dead by John Russo

Image
Epidemic of the Living Dead by John Russo 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃 John Russo , decades later, continues to re-invent and bring a fresh take on the zombie horror subgenre in Epidemic of the Living Dead . The story is about a world that has already dealt with the terrifying plague of the undead. Years later, infected needles are stolen and the town of Chapel Grove, Pennsylvania is overrun with zombies. A lot of people die, and some expecting-mothers are bitten and sent to a maternity ward to deliver their babies. The newborns of these infected mothers seemed to be normal, but as the years go by, these kids start inhibiting strange characteristics and appetites, especially once they reach puberty. I finished this book in three days because I couldn't put it down! There are so many twists and turns, fast-paced dilemmas and occurrences with the flesh-hungry ghouls, and John Russo kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. I kept turning page after page because the suspense was ...

Are You Alright, Bro? (An Essay) by E. Reyes

Image
Pop Tarts are currently promoting a free book when you buy a box; one box equals one free book, so this morning I decided to go out and get some. I live extremely close to a Fry's grocery store, so I decided to walk. It was 94° outside, the devil decided to visit early, but I still went out anyway. As soon as I stepped out, I immediately felt the heat. My sunglasses did nothing to exhaust the hateful sun’s UV rays. Sweat started dripping, throat started drying, the Arizona heat was smothering me. I’m a casual jay-walker, only when the street is extremely dead and clear of automobiles, but there was too much traffic at nine in the freaking morning. I have anxiety and, most likely, social anxiety, so you won’t catch me using the pedestrian walk. Walking in front of parked cars? No way in hell. Anyway, it took me a good fifteen minutes to cross the street. I was heating up under the sun like a hot dog at Quik Trip. After being socially awkward and nervous inside Fry’s, it’s...

My Current Read: Epidemic of the Living Dead by John Russo

Image
I am currently reading Epidemic of the Living Dead by John Russo , and I must say, I am enjoying it! I'm always a little skeptical when reading a zombie story because there has been so much of them and a lot of them are lackluster, but John Russo diminished any doubt or skepticism that I inhabited beforehand. And I'm only 22% done. (I mean, he is the screen writer for the original Night of the Living Dead .) The book comes out on August 28th . I'm reading a ARC copy provided by NetGalley. Here's the details about Epidemic of the Living Dead: "From the screenwriter of the original 1968   Night of the Living Dead  comes a shocking new wave of zombie mayhem to devour your dreams—and feed your nightmares . . . THEY ARE WHAT THEY EAT It starts with infected needles. It spreads like a plague. Soon the town of Chapel Grove, Pennsylvania, is overrun with cannibalistic corpses. Some are taken down with a bullet to the brain. Others, torched like kindling. But...
