Annihilation (Movie Review)

Annihilation (2018)
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Written & Directed by Alex Garland
Based on the novel of the same name
By Jeff VanderMeer
Starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, & Gina
Rodriguez

Annihilation is about a group of military scientists who set out to uncover the mystery of something that crash landed into a lighthouse, causing a shimmer that seems to keep growing as it mutates the surrounding landscape and transforms different species.

I didn't watch numerous trailers or clips of Annihilation, so all I knew was that a group of women were going to enter a quarantined land that foreshadowed something dangerous. I was blown away after watching it.

Annihilation is a perfect mix of sci-fi, horror, and drama. It deals with self-destruction -- Natalie Portman's character is depressed, there is a cutter, and another person who is pretty much on a suicide mission, not really caring for her safety. It blends all of these scientific, horrific, emotional moments so well.

I enjoyed the strong acting on the movie, but Natalie Portman truly shines just like the shimmer. Proving once again how she can tackle a role, any role, like it's easy.

This movie is like an acid trip at a sci-fi showing on Halloween. There are tons of scary and wtf moments. Watch it!

It is now streaming on Hulu!
